The Powder Coating Advantage
Why choose powder coating over conventional paint?

Powder coating provides the attractiveness of paint (matte, shiny, or textured) with the durability of steel. It’s tough, comparable in price to traditional paint applications and about one hundred times stronger. Plus it’s easy on the environment!

How does it work?

Tiny particles of pigment and resin are electro statically charged and sprayed onto a grounded part. The item is then cured at the proper temperature to melt the particles and fuse them to the metal part. The result is a tough, even finish.

“Easy on the environment?”….Why?

Unlike traditional painting methods, the powder coating system has virtually no harmful emissions. The pigments are attracted to the metal item via an electrostatic charge with no over-spray. Almost all items are sand-blasted (very few require solvents), so chemical emissions are minimal.

You say “If it’s metal, it can be powder coated.” Any metal? Even aluminum?

Yep, even aluminum. Certainly some metals are easier to handle than others and aluminum must be handled with extra care. In fact, this is one metal you shouldn’t try to do on your own unless you have a great deal of experience. Better to take it to a professional with proven results in the medium. Here is an example of a finished aluminum product.

Are you experienced?

Yes. After trying the process on my own parts in a small oven (and seeing how great they turned out!), I decided to dedicate myself to this business in spring of 2004. Before accepting my first job, I spent many hours training and attending trade shows to learn as much as I could. I invested in a custom-made 6’x8’ Eaton oven with a rolling carriage so that even the most cumbersome parts could be coated without damage. I’ve turned out hundreds of items since then, with a near-100% satisfaction rate. I’ve done everything from car frames to wagon wheels…and everything in between (manifolds, gas pedals, and bird cages for example). I demand that my own items look perfect and will give the same attention to detail on yours.

What’s the turn-around time?

That depends on your needs. I don’t like to be rushed (and you wouldn’t want me to rush your job!), but I understand that there are times when things are needed quickly. Typically, I’ll give you a delivery date at the time of estimate. If you need it sooner I’ll let you know if your date is feasible and will charge an additional “rush” fee that will be agreed upon prior to the work being done. I only accept work that I believe can be delivered by your desired date.

Do you pick up and deliver?

I do not pick up small items or groups of small parts. These must be delivered to my shop. For an appointment, please call (607)227-8844 or E-mail. During the appointment, I’ll give you a written estimate and pick-up date. If you’re mailing parts, I’ll contact you upon receipt and give you an estimate.

For larger items (such as bath tubs, ATV frames, or lawn furniture), you should first call or e-mail to discuss the project. I’ll give you a verbal estimate on the phone and arrange for pick-up if agreeable. At pick-up, I’ll evaluate the item and give you a written estimate and delivery date. Your cost will include a pick-up and delivery fee.
